Community
guidelines

Film Club Aotearoa is a place to learn, ask questions, share experience and meet people who have been there before. These guidelines keep it that way.

What Film Club is

  • A community for knowledge sharing, professional development and meaningful conversations.
  • A way to connect emerging practitioners with experienced people in the Aotearoa screen industry.
  • A place to learn, ask questions and share experience.

What Film Club is not

  • It is not a job board.
  • It is not a recruitment service.
  • It is not a place to solicit work.
  • It is not a platform for pressuring people for professional opportunities.

Expectations for members

  • Treat other members respectfully.
  • Communicate professionally.
  • Respect people's time and boundaries.
  • Do not pressure someone who has said no.
  • Do not repeatedly contact someone about work or opportunities.
  • Use good judgement when discussing private, confidential or commercially sensitive information.

Work requests

Members must not use mentorship conversations to pressure mentors for jobs, paid work, referrals, introductions, representation or other professional opportunities.

A mentor may choose to share opportunities themselves — but that choice is always theirs. Repeated or inappropriate requests may result in removal from the community.

Behaviour

Harassment, intimidation, discrimination, sexual misconduct, threatening behaviour, persistent unwanted contact or other inappropriate behaviour is not acceptable.

Film Club Aotearoa may suspend or remove members where appropriate.

Reporting concerns

If a conversation makes you uncomfortable, or if another member behaves inappropriately or breaches these guidelines, please contact us. Reports are reviewed by a person and taken seriously. This applies equally to mentors and mentees.
